Sister Cities: Introduction

ArchitectureRichmond is announcing a series of articles focused on each of Richmond’s sister cities. The organization Sister Cities International pairs cities from around the globe with each other in order to promote intercultural exchange and understanding. Richmond is lucky enough to have five active sister city partnerships with cities from five separate nations.

They are:

Saitama, Japan
Ségou, Mali
Windhoek, Namibia
Zhengzhou, China

and, of course, our name-sake,

Richmond-upon-Thames, England.

Over the following weeks, a brief description of each city, its history, and its importance will be provided, as well as insights from the Sister Cities Commission chairwoman, Dr. Pat Cummins. ArchitectureRichmond will also be examining current architectural and urban design projects in these cities as a point of reference for our own development.
